Slopes are common in Redditch gardens, and they often leave space that is hard to use. This project turned a sloping plot into a series of level tiers, each with its own job.
Starting point
Falling away from the house, most of the garden was too steep for seating or play. The family wanted a lawn for the children and a big terrace for dining.
What we did
We reshaped the ground into tiers held by timber retaining walls, with steps and timber rails linking the levels. We turfed the lower tier for play and paved the upper level as a large terrace.
- Earthworks to form level tiers on a sloping plot
- Timber retaining walls, steps and handrails
- New turf on the lower tier
- A large sandstone terrace for dining
Finished result
Warm sandstone, a fresh lawn and clear steps between the levels have turned an awkward slope into a garden the whole family uses, with space for a dining table and a basketball hoop.
